The creator of "La Corviglia"

It's mid-November, and the first snow is just around the corner. In the heart of Samedan, Dennis Miozzari is putting the finishing touches on the trophies for this year's World Cup races – the engravings. He's the creative mind behind the "Corviglias."

The trophies are not only artistically crafted but, as the name suggests, also carry a deeper meaning. "I wanted to create a trophy that has a connection to the Engadin," explains the certified wood technician. The trophy's shape, an elegant triangle, symbolizes the majestic mountains and breathtaking natural beauty of the region. At its center sits an Alpine chough, whose Romansch name is 'Corviglia'. "The bird represents the ski resort as well as the World Cup race track with the same name. The Alpine chough is native to the Engadine and glides effortlessly around the highest peaks," Dennis explains.

The Swiss pine wood that the 32-year-old uses to create the "Corviglias" is also native to the region. “The Swiss pine is considered the ‘Queen of the Alps’ among trees, and therefore a very fitting material for me.” The trophies will be further embellished with various metals to reflect the gold, silver, and bronze placements.

And the creator of the “Corviglias” himself is also a local. Having grown up in Celerina, Dennis, the brother of the organising committee president Robin Miozzari, has spent countless hours on the Corviglia since childhood – both as an active skier and in his free time. He is proud to be able to design and produce the trophies as a local entrepreneur: “It is an honor for me to contribute something creative to this event, which has always meant a great deal to me personally, and to create something that expresses the beauty of my homeland.”
